Actually, I have come across a review ( ) , where the author say that BigCommerce was developed by Interspire. I had an experience of using Interspire demo version, so are they similar?

    Very interesting. I don’t know that much about 3DCart or hosted solutions. My background (not technical) was with operating a Magento store. I would love to operate a hosted solution in the future…is 3DCart that much more robust in features and customization? How does the day to day management ability compare from 3DCart to Big Commerce to a Magento store? Do you suggest using the in house design teams? What is the advantage to work with an agency rather than the builder direct?

      Going from a self-hosted (Magento) to a hosted solution will be slightly different, but having the updates, security and support come with your store is very appealing. While you may not be able to dig into source code like you would on a Magento site, there is usually no need to for most people anyway. I would say every hosted solution will have it’s own look, fee and learning curve to the admin area. It really comes down to personal preference. While I personally prefer the BigCommerce admin area, there is nothing “wrong” with the others. Best thing is to run trials and test drive each. As for design teams, being an agency that does ecommerce customization ourselves I’ll try to be as objective as possible :). Many times an in-house design team (if offered) will produce a nice looking website for a price lower than a professional web design agency. They may have the advantage of working with the system day in and day out which might add quickness and efficiency to their offering. That said, I’ve never seen anything ground breaking come from an in-house design team. I feel like the speed and low prices they can offer forces them into a “get it done” mentality sometimes. When we quote an ecommerce design project, it’s almost never the same price twice. Sometimes we’re giving a site a face-lift, sometimes we’re integrating with a CRM, sometimes we’re integrating plugins, but we’re always providing feedback and direction based on running an ecommerce business, not just launching a website.   • Unfortunately, no resources Volusion 3dcart important to address concerns regarding customer service. It is one of the famous brands 3dcart few weaknesses. However, this does not mean they do not support the respectable major problems.

    How come no “Weaknesses & Disadvantages” section? You added that to one of your other reviews, I was expecting to see one here. People want to know what to watch out for. For example, Volusions hidden bandwidth fees, which many of your commenters complained about. I’m surprised it’s not mentioned here.

    3dCart has been an unmitigated disaster for us. Their ‘customer support’ is a joke – at best. I have never had a question or issued answered or resolved. The pat answer is “That’s how we do it”. They make changes without notice and demand ridiculous settings – like a 12 character password for your email. Contrary to the article, they only allow a maximum of 4 pictures for a product that can be available to their vaunted ‘zoom’ feature. Their interface to Quickbooks is a joke. You can have product options with a negative value (e.g. the option reduces the value of the basic product) – but then their QB interface refuses to download that sales receipt. Their ‘ship manager’ is even worse. Half the time it does not work – I think because their system is overloaded – and the rest of the time it is slower than molasses in January. Getting anything done is agonizing. You have to ‘click’ multiple time to accomplish a task.

    Bottom Line … DO NOT USE 3DCART!!!
