Keeping Your Brand Out of .XXX

ICM has just released information about how to protect your brand against getting register on the new .XXX domain. This is for brands outside of the adult community, who seek to reserve names in order to ensure that those names are not registered as domain names by others in .XXX. At the close of the registration period, if no conflicting application by an adult brand applicant has been made, these names will be blocked from registration.

Here is a quick overview of what is happening:

  • .XXX domain launching to public in December
  • Offering a one-time, opt-out period for any brands that do not want their trademarks used on this domain.
  • The process begins tomorrow (Sept. 7th) and ends October 28th, after which you can still acquire any brand domains but through fighting the general public.
  • If you explore these options, be sure that to keep to Sunrise Plan B, which is for brands who are not XXX-related and want to opt out.

We think it is a good idea for all brands to register at this time, to avoid any issues down the road. Visit the ICM Registry’s .XXX Sunrise B page to learn more.
